Introduction to sociology lecture notes

Lecture notes

Contemporary work? Yes? Yes! My notes from the first series of lectures at Stokmarknes College. If only I can get a grip on the reading this week. 731 pages by the first exam late in September. The introductory reading is all over the place and so is my head. Sociology is a perfect study for my secret (oops:o) plan to reveal that the concept of art is capitalism’s central engine. Huh? What did I just say? I don’t know and that’s the point of being there.

Last time I tried studying the only way I could get on with it was to make elaborate notes that wound up as watercolours with a pencil backdrop of philosophy. So I’m doing something similar this time aswell.

The hospital wall

We’re getting along nicely:) I forgot to put in a hole for the ventilation though !!:( I don’t wan’t to do it now cause it’ll ruin the windbreaker. I’ll put it in on the north (front) wall when she isn’t looking hihi. Tomorrow it’s going to rain so I’ll give it a rest and do some reading.

A first chapter of drawings

Friday, August 28th, 2009

The first chapter of my drawings project is completed.

No conclusion has been made but the folder is full. 125 drawings, some framed, some are not.

Doing the drawings has been liberating step away from the quagmire of abstract expressionism.

To me the work has been and is a step towards clarity and reason without loosing the playfull.

I get some questions about if I would make larger drawings but I won’t.

If I want to make a large piece I’ll do an insanely exspensive painting or a sculpture.

What I plan to do with the drawings is upping the resolution by getting a thinner pen than my Sapporo.

Hopefully I will get an oppurtunity to install the drawings somewhere in 2010 or 2011.

My main focus is building the collection.

The house before and later, eh now

A little progress I guess. The house remains the same. The roof is clear of the windows at least.

The construction was actually floating on air. A flying house:) It can and will be repaired.

The wall facing the local hospital is upp next. This part of the house is an addition to the original building. It’s probably from the 1920ies and in a terrible state. I’m starting from the left to just past the windows as a first step.

Bench satelite and easel

The sculpture “Satelite” and the bench was ready for the festival Nyksund Ni which was on this weekend. It was great to see the bench in use by people enjoying the show. On the right you see a canvas which was painted by children at the the festival.

The festival was great! Great music and great people. I’m allready looking forward to next year and I only just got back. The guys have worked like mad to get it in place and they did it!

The bench and the sculpture will be sold this month to help balance the budget for the festival so stay tuned:)
