Wednesday, February 18th, 2009The process of drying water
Monday, February 16th, 2009These are the reason for starting the linear drawings. Upp to december 2007 this is what I was doing with paper. Soaking and splattering thin washes of watercolour to see what happened. I have a series of 18 going now. I manage a layer a day or so. I’m not stopping till something pops up. Perhaps this Easter they are saturated enough.
Fortunately I was able to establish a new relation to drawing maybe because of this work with the water. A step away from the gestural so to speak but my aim with the watercolours was not gestural work. They just look like gestural work. My aim was to establish a process of “growing” pictures. Their visual appearance were to be that of nature or processes in nature though not imitations of what nature looks like but infact the result or remnant of how nature works. It is possible to do convincing work in this manner but as of yet I have not had the patience to make the washes thin enough and let the process go on long enough to be completely satisfied though.
