The central motive in these drawings was and is elimination. To take away most elements. In these linearfields everything has been taken away except the lines that saturate the piece of paper (the field). The creation of these drawings are not mechanical voids though. That would look completely uniform. They contain a gestural element and that is the visible play of lines within the lines. So in other words these drawings are not completely without traces of personal temperament.
Time to change the napkin
Sunday, January 25th, 2009About time indeed. Splattered with ink from cleaning my pens while drawing. My collection of these saturated pieces of thin paper is growing. They prove the point that nonlethal accidents is what makes anything interesting. It applies to the linear drawings aswell. The accidents or nonconform incidents that occur within the rigid schema is what makes them tic or toc trying to achieve a balance between the gestural and the elaborate.
